What is Pramble?
Pramble is a community-powered map that helps parents and caregivers navigate the city with a pram or baby carrier. It shows real-world accessibility ratings for footpaths and trails, contributed by people who have actually walked the route, plus family-friendly places like playgrounds, baby-changing facilities, toilets and baby-friendly cafés.
What does pram-friendly mean?
A pram-friendly route is smooth, step-free and easy to push a pram along. On Pramble, paths rated as pram-friendly are ones contributors have walked with a pram and found straightforward — without steep climbs, stairs or obstructed footpaths.
How does Pramble rate paths?
Paths are rated by the people who walk them. Contributors choose one of four categories — pram-friendly, carrier, avoid or stairs — and can add optional details such as a steep, muddy, uneven or obstructed surface. Every coloured path on the map is built from these user submissions.
What types of paths can I find on Pramble?
You can find four kinds of rated path: pram-friendly (smooth and step-free), carrier (easier with a baby carrier than a pram), avoid (difficult or unpleasant with a pram), and stairs (steps that interrupt an otherwise walkable route). Each path is colour-coded on the map.
Can I use Pramble with a baby carrier?
Yes. Pramble is built for both prams and baby carriers. The "carrier" category highlights routes that are easier with a carrier than a pram — for example because of steep or uneven ground — so you can choose the right route for how you are carrying your little one.
How can I add a place to Pramble?
Open the Contribute menu, choose Add a place, pick a place type (such as a playground, bench, baby-changing facilities, toilets, parking, viewpoint or picnic area), then tap the map to place it. For cafés, pubs and restaurants, Pramble searches nearby venues so you can pick an existing place and add your amenity ratings.
How can I mark a path?
Open the Contribute menu, choose Mark, select a category (pram-friendly, carrier, avoid or stairs), then tap the map to place points along your route. Pramble snaps your points to the road and footpath network so the rating lines up with real streets. You can add optional surface details, then save.
What is the difference between marking and recording a path?
Marking lets you plan and rate a route from home by tapping points on the map. Recording follows you as you walk, capturing your route in real time using your phone’s GPS. In short: Mark is for planning, Record is for walking.
How can I record a path while walking?
Open the Contribute menu, choose Record, select a category, then start walking. Pramble captures your route using your phone’s GPS and matches it to the road and footpath network. You can change the category as conditions change along the way, then save when you finish.
What types of family-friendly places are on Pramble?
Pramble includes playgrounds, picnic areas, benches, viewpoints, baby-changing facilities, toilets and parking, plus baby-friendly cafés, pubs, restaurants, bars, bakeries and coffee shops. Each place can carry community amenity ratings, such as high chairs, pram space and baby-changing facilities for eateries.
How does Pramble get its map information?
Pramble combines community contributions with trusted data sources. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License, map tiles from OpenFreeMap, place search and venue data from Geoapify, and route matching from OpenRouteService. The accessibility ratings themselves come from Pramble users.
Is Pramble free?
Yes, Pramble is free to explore. You can browse the map, search for places and view ratings without an account. Creating a free account lets you contribute your own ratings and places, and track your contributed distance on the leaderboard.
How can I help improve the Pramble map?
Every contribution helps. Rate a path you walk with Mark or Record, add family-friendly places you visit, and rate the amenities at cafés and other eateries. The more people contribute, the clearer the city becomes for every family pushing a pram or carrying a little one.
